In the Centennial year of 1876 on January 18th, Rufus Smith was appointed Chief of Police and Uriah Hutchings was appointed Assistant Chief of Police.


In the late
1880s through early 1926, William A Harris was Chief of Police.


1926 - 1942:  Solon E. McKown was appointed Chief of Police.


1942 - 1953:  William Scheerens was appointed Chief of Police.  He came up through the ranks as as a patrolman.


1993 - 2008:  Richard Bogan was appointed Chief of Police.  He came through the ranks as a Patrolman.


2008 - June until August:  Gary VerStraete was appointed as Officer in Charge.


August 2008 - Present:  David Christler was appointed Chief of Police.  Chief Christler retired from the New York State Police as a Deputy Superintendent.



1976 - 1981:  Vincent Krebbeks was appointed Chief of Police.  He came up through the ranks as a Patrolman.


1971 - 1976:  Edwin R.C. Krueger was appointed Chief of Police.  He came through the ranks as a Patrolman.

1956 - 1966:  Edwin J. Lawton was appointed Chief of Police.  He was the 1st Chief to send his officers to different Law Enforcement Schools.


1981 - 1993:  Edward Heathcoat was appointed Chief of Police.  He came up through the ranks as a Patrolman.


1966 - 1971:  Donald A. Brown was appointed Chief of Police.


1953 - 1956:  William Artlip was appointed Chief of Police.  He also came up through the ranks as a Patrolman.
