Thank you for visiting the Village of Newark website. We are very proud of our community and enjoy sharing information about the Village with others.
The Village of Newark is located on the Erie Canal and is the largest community in Wayne County. We are centrally located between Syracuse and Rochester to the East and West, and between Lake Ontario and The Finger Lakes to the North and South. We are an ideal location for both vacationers and businesses with two New York State Thruway exits each only fifteen minutes away.
Several hundred boats visit the Port of Newark during the season and over 6,800 people work in the Village daily. While we are the center of activity for the County with many retail businesses and industrial employers, there is still a hometown feel with several public parks and a strong, supportive school system which provides a wealth of opportunities. The faith community is devoted and diverse with many beautiful houses of worship.
Our residents are fortunate to have a very dedicated Volunteer Fire Department which is second to none and a Police Department that is excellent at maintaining safety. In addition, Newark is home to the only hospital in Wayne County. In 2014, Newark-Wayne Community Hospital was recognized by the Joint Commission for attaining and sustaining excellence and in 2019, the hospital achieved Magnet status, a distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center that recognizes nursing excellence. Only 6% of hospitals nationwide have achieved Magnet status, and even fewer are small, rural hospitals such as Newark-Wayne. In addition, the ICU unit received Gold Beacon Award from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, one of only 16 Gold Beacon Awards in New York State.
Please browse our website and familiarize yourself with The Village of Newark. We are a friendly and welcoming community that encourages you to visit here, to live here, and to open your business here.
