The Village Building and Code Enforcement Office is responsible for the local enforcement of the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code, as well as the Village of Newark Code.  The current staff oversees the review and issuance of building permits and alarm permits, the inspection of construction projects, inspection of multi-family dwellings, and the inspection of all commercial and industrial buildings.

The office also follows up on all citizen complaints (click here for online complaint form), receives applications for the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals, completes property maintenance inspections and takes the necessary enforcement measures to ensure compliance with all applicable codes.

The department provides assistance for the Economic Development Department to facilitate and assist developers as they go through the permitting and review process.  Our goal is to work with developers, contractors, property owners, and residents to maximize the protection of public health, safety, and welfare, while at the same time, minimizing unnecessary regulatory obstacles to development, whenever possible.

NOTE:  For your convenience, a building permit application form may be downloaded and printed.  However, at this time, it is not possible to apply online.  All applications and supporting documentation must be mailed or brought to the Code Enforcement Office.  Please call in advance to set up an appointment.
